Michael Norgrove, Zambian based in UK, won his professional debut contest on Saturday, 24th April in London.

He defeated Duncan Cottier in a Light-Middleweight boxing contest at York Hall, Bethnal Green, promoted by Steve Goodwin.

In an exclusive interview with UKZAMBIANS, Michael said: “My dream has finally come true; I am now a professional boxer. “I have learnt that hard work pays off, if you work hard and focussed you get what you want. “I would like to thank my coach who made me work hard.

“I am happy I did not get hurt. Though, initially, I was very nervous but I felt extremely happy after the fight”. Michael said his next ranking fight would be on June 19th in East London at the same venue. Michael told UKZAMBIANS that his mission was to become a British champion. “Zambia has already a world Champion in Esther Phiri; it will be great for Zambia to have two champions”.

Asked about his heritage, Michael said: “I love my heritage, I love Zambia, it is a great country and if there is anything I can do to put Zambia on the map, then I will do it”. Michael said two weeks ago, he lost his grandfather and that made him think what he can do for others. Michael 29 was born in Zambia but left Zambia with parents as a kid in 1988 for Australia and UK where he currently lives.
